Position Overview

The Warden is the top administrator for Lansing Correctional Facility, managing 480 staff and up to 2,432 adult male inmates across multiple custody levels. This executive role oversees all facility operations including:

  • Security & emergency planning

  • Human resources & training

  • Budget & facility planning

  • Correctional & rehabilitative programs

  • Medical/mental health service contracts

  • Staff & resident communications

  • Legal and public relations


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety, security, and compliance with laws and policies

  • Direct emergency responses, investigations, and corrective actions

  • Supervise staffing, training, evaluations, and professional development

  • Develop and manage facility budgets and capital projects

  • Oversee medical, behavioral health, and rehabilitative services

  • Respond to grievances and serve as the facility spokesperson


Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in corrections, including 5 years at the executive level (e.g., Major, Program Director)

  • Valid driver’s license; pass a criminal background check


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Admin, or related field

  • Strong leadership, emergency response, and administrative skills

  • Familiarity with modern correctional practices and rehabilitation methods
