Job Responsibilities

  • The incumbent is on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.    
  • Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, manages, and is responsible for all administrative, security, safety, welfare, and programmatic missions/activities for Evans Correctional Institution.
  • Ensures that all inmates assigned to this level two facility are secured and held in custody until released by the proper authority.
  • Responsible for the Level II re-entry program for community reintegration (employment, vocational rehabilitation services, housing, etc.) at Evans CI.
  • The incumbent ensures the safety of all assigned employees; plans and implements programs for the inmates assigned to the institution.        
  • The incumbent will be assigned an emergency vehicle to immediately respond to and coordinate efforts relating to disturbances/emergencies within the institution.
  • Ensures that institutional operations/programs are conducted in accordance with state laws, SCDC policy and good management practices.   

 

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

 

SCDC Minimum Requirements: 
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resource).

  • Twelve (12) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including six (6) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
  • A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for up to 1/2 of required supervisory experience (associate = 2 years, bachelor's and above = 3 years).
  • Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
