The Maryland DPSCS is seeking a Medical Director responsible for developing and maintaining medical policy, overseeing clinical collaboration among contracted medical, mental health, dental, and pharmacy teams, and ensuring quality healthcare for incarcerated individuals in the Baltimore Pretrial Complex and other Department of Corrections facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and administer medical policies and programs, including somatic care, mental health, substance use treatment, dental, pharmacy, infection control, and quality improvement
Supervise contracted vendors and their clinical directors through meetings, case reviews, and teaching rounds
Develop treatment protocols for chronic illness and disease management
Coordinate with state, local, federal, and private agencies on healthcare policies
Review incarcerated individual deaths and investigate disease outbreaks
Provide education and training for medical staff
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: As determined by the Maryland State Board of Physicians
Experience: 7 years, including 5 years of clinical care or healthcare administration and 2 years in supervisory or leadership roles
Preferred Qualifications:
Board certification in a primary care specialty (Family Practice, OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry)
Unrestricted medical license in the continental U.S.
Correctional healthcare, academic, or hospital administration experience
Knowledge & Skills:
Correctional and community healthcare systems
Clinical and preventive healthcare administration
Medical laws, policies, and quality improvement programs
Staff management and development
Computer literacy
