The Maryland Division of Pretrial Detention and Services (DPDS) is seeking an Assistant to the Director of the Commitment Records Unit. This role supports the Director in managing daily office operations, developing policies, and serving as a liaison with criminal justice agencies to ensure security and public safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in establishing policies, goals, and objectives for the Central Records Unit
Serve as a liaison with federal, state, county, and municipal law enforcement, correctional facilities, parole/probation agencies, and detention centers
Oversee daily operations, including:
Entering and verifying data in the Offender Case Management System (OCMS)
Processing pretrial, sentenced, mental health, and federal inmate commitments
Handling writs, detainers, warrants, indictments, subpoenas, extraditions, bail releases, and court orders
Conducting warrant checks via NCIC, MILES, JIS, and CHASE
Computing sentence credits and release dates
Preparing inmate records for court proceedings and transfers
Maintaining, verifying, and resolving discrepancies in inmate records
Microfilming and managing inmate files
Disseminating criminal history information to the public and criminal justice agencies
Identifying inmates for parole hearings and sentence commutations
Producing population reports and statistical data
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Legal and Ethical Studies, or Business Administration
Experience: 5 years reviewing and interpreting writs, court orders, sentence commitments, and related records, including 3 years in a management role overseeing teams with these duties
Selective Qualifications:
Experience with OCMS, Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) System, CJIS, JPortal, and Meters
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Legal and Ethical Studies, or Public/Business Administration
