POSITION DUTIES

The Psychologist, Correctional is primarily responsible for conducting comprehensive risk assessments for incarcerated individuals as assigned by the Maryland Parole Commission. These assessments play a critical role in informing parole decisions by providing objective, evidence-based evaluations of risk.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person and/or virtual risk evaluations for incarcerated individuals across the Maryland Department of Corrections
  • Complete risk assessments primarily for individuals serving life sentences, as well as other referred cases
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to support parole decision-making processes

Record Review & Case Analysis

  • Review and analyze multiple sources of information, including:
    • Electronic and paper files
    • Offender Case Management System (OCMS)
    • Electronic Patient History Record (EPHR)
    • Pre-Sentence Investigation reports
    • Previous risk assessments

Assessment & Testing

  • Administer and interpret standardized psychological and risk assessment instruments, including:
    • Cognitive and intellectual functioning measures
    • Literacy and comprehension assessments
    • Personality assessments
    • Violence and sexual risk assessment tools
  • Common instruments include:
    • WASI-II, WAIS-IV
    • WRAT-5
    • PAI-CS
    • HCR-20 V3
    • PCL-R
    • SVR-20 V2
    • STATIC-99 / STATIC-99R
    • STABLE-2007

Professional Development & Compliance

  • Maintain licensure as a psychologist in the State of Maryland
  • Participate in continuing education to remain current with evolving risk assessment tools and best practices
  • Ensure adherence to professional, ethical, and legal standards in all evaluations
